The Autodidactic Polymath

Being autodidactic and a polymath are sort of frowned upon in our ultra-specialized school-taught society. Personally I believe that true autodidactic polymaths are essential to modern society. People who can claim to be experts in many fields can often see connections between subjects that are not usually connected and being self-taught often allows a person to approach a subject thinking outside of the box.

About Me

B.F. Biermaster
I am not claiming to actually be a polymath. I believe that is a title bestowed by others and it carries a connotation of expertise and genius that is not ascribed to the everyday generalist. Leonardo Da Vince, Thomas Edison, or Benjamin Franklin are my best examples. Though I have a degree in Electronic Engineering, I am mostly self-taught. I am very curious. It is a blessing and a curse. Being curious I like to study about just about everything but I find that it has also precluded me from obtaining an expert level in any particular skill. So, I describe my self as a generalist. I find that no matter the subject at the party I can easily follow and even interject from time to time. Being a generalist is great social tool. I am in the US Army for the time. I will be attending school to be a healthcare specialist sometime next year.
